Local and Regional Bus Systems

The following bus systems offer travel options beyond the five boroughs:

Nassau Inter-County Express (formerly MTA Long Island Bus; accepts MetroCard)
The bus system in Nassau County, Long Island, NY. Some of its bus routes go into Queens and connect with MTA buses and subways.

Bee-Line Bus (accepts MetroCard)
The bus system in Westchester County, NY. Some of its bus routes go into the Bronx and Manhattan or connect with MTA buses and subways near the city line.

New Jersey Transit Bus
New Jersey’s main bus system covering the state as well as providing service to and from three regional bus hubs: Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal and George Washington Bridge Bus Station as well as the Journal Square Transportation Center in Jersey City, NJ.

Private Services
Many private commuter bus companies also operate between New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut; a list is available here.
